Bazaar Report aw08 - Part 2

I'm really glad that many of you have enjoyed reading this Bazaar Report. Therefore, ready, steady, Part 2!

Long & Narrow can create a timeless evening look! Look at this sensual Bottega Veneta below! Together with a loose hair bun and a statement bangle, I will put on some 1930s elegant gowns in rich luminous ink colour! I'm thinking about deep purple or navy in silk satin - the sexy lighting will reflect on your amazing dress and create that speechless silhouette! Of course, I need to fix a serious date first....

Plaid & Tartan can create such a quirky and uplifting look! You only need to invest an signature piece that will last for years! I personally really love the Vivienne Westwood's creative blazers and Balmain's slick look.

Lace is probably one of the most romantic trends this season and it is my all time favourite! It can make even the simplest dress shine and feminine instantly! Oh my, that Prada dress is to die for!

I have never been so creative on colour, but I will surely give a try this fall! I will start with mustard yellow! I love to team it with olive green, various tones of grey and petrol blue!

Sleepy Hollow is soooo daring! It needs a good look in front of the mirror before going out to make sure "I'm fierce and stylish, not scary"! However, I may get some long chains and gorgeous blouses to start with. That Alexander McQueen below has just stole my heart...

I love hood for casual day look, but it may not be the easiest cloth for night! Unless you match really well, it may give a more sporty look than it is shown on the runway...

Bazaar Report aw08 - Part 1

I always find January and July very exciting. Not only there are sales everywhere, it is also the start of the new season. Particularly, I love the fashion magazines in July. Actually, I should say all the August issues. They are always 1 month in advance, right? I've just got my Harper's Bazaar - one of the best issues this year! So, I will try to update their Key Look Reports in the following posts for all of you who haven't got British Harper's available :)

I love Fierce Chic! The rock chic look goes more glamorous and sophisticated this autumn! The make-up and outfit are simply together and mysterious.

The belt-up look is my long-time favourite, since I got a vintage fur scarf from my mum. For me, this is the best way to wear it for a more day look - a new modern classic! I will carry on this winter.

I'm always a round-toe shoe girl, but I can feel pointed-toe is coming back this winter in a more dressy and sexy way... Then, I'm looking for a romantic pair, maybe I will get a pair of almond-toe platforms... yummy!

The structured silhouette is just amazing! It gives power into our winter outfit! I love both my slim trousers for a super long-leg sleek look and also my volume ones for my figure hugging cashmeres. Marc Jacobs has just created this perfect silhouette for Louis Vuitton. Girls, all we need is some simple clean make-up and a good wallet :)

Vest, Vest, Vest Me!

I wasn’t going to say much on “vest trend” this season, since many talented bloggers have talked about a bit, but I was thinking that we really deserve something new for vest apart from the usual slick or effortlessly cool style. Therefore, I want to put up some great vests from this season by various designers for you guys.

P.S. As you known, I am not intend to encourage you catching up this trend. Rather, I just want to show a few ways of styling. And if you want to get a vest, then you can have one in your own style :)

• Tuxedo Vest

Borrow from your boyfriend? No, we can get better than the usual borrowing with our very own tuxedo shaped vests - masculine, slick and totally women-in-power modern goddesses. It reminds me when Yves Saint Laurent first designed their Tuxedo blazer!

You can team the hip-length vests with variously calibrated high-waisted, ankle-cropped trousers, floaty skirts or slim dresses to create the new volumes, particularly if you can play with fabrics in contrasting texture! Remember, make sure you still define your waist. Lots of them were worn open, but I guess we can always play with different outfits!

• Soft Focus

We always wear vests with jeans, shorts or boho dresses occationally. However, we can really make vest much softer and more romantic. It can be your best mate for floaty dresses and play your cuteness around! I'm thinking to layer it with a top with some details down the sleeves, which can be silk & cashmere mix or a pastel coloured dress...

Remember this picture of Sienna Miller attending her sister's wedding? We can try cotton vest with silk chiffon dress to make it even more English Garden Party :)

• Fun Vest

Vest can be young, fun and chic! Yes, accessorise your vest... maybe some vintage brooches? Mix the bold colour to spice it up - like a college chic! Even it is an old old vest, we can create a feel - a young girl who stole a vest from her grandma's wardrobe and makes it totally her own!

• Defined Vest - Belt it

The one that has been centre of the attention is to belt your vest! You can use a wide, narrow, leather or straw belt. Be imaginative – no need matchy-matchy! Let’s show our waist with whatever can make you happy!

Another Proenza Schouler Cult - but what I love about Sarah Jessica Parker (as Carrie Bradshaw in the new Sex and the City: the Movie) is that she made the vest totally her own! The lemon yellow vest is much more showy with the greyish blue skirt, and the cut and structure was also presented beautifully with the short & floaty cut of the skirt... and her hat! How bold and beautiful!

Got Over Skinny Jeans Yet?

Recently, I was reading an article on a newspaper claiming “the least flattering trend is finally over”! Since I am not really a trend follower, I have to put a little post here - a post is not really about creative fashion… umm… more like talking about basic pieces that you have to wear in “boring” places, perhaps like college. Actually, I want to say that you can spice them up and look super duper cool, i.e. a stable piece not too cool for school. Yes, I want to talk a bit on skinny jeans.

Oh, not again, please. I guess that you have heard a lot about jeans, and know more than a dozen of brands. Still, many of us complain that we need to loose a couple of pounds before wearing a pair of skinny jeans. Actually, a really good pair should refine your body shape after putting them on – a few of notes:

1. If you are after a super slim look, you’d better not to choose “spray-on” jeans or cigarette-leg shape. Suggestion? Go for Superfine Harry jeans rather than Liberty. The straight-leg skinny jeans elongate your legs perfectly by teaming a pair of heels - make sure the length of the jeans can just cover your heels, not showing too much your heels (close toes in the similar colour to your jeans will do a better trick).

2. Depending on what you are looking for, branding can be very important, as many of them have registered patterns that are basic to ensure your body shape. Few brands I like.

• Superfine – no-fuss jeans with the best shape forming. It is much more than that 2% lycra – we don’t want to see its shape changing or become 1 size bigger after wearing them for a couple times, right? The fine fabric, which also has unique shape holding ability, is just superb for the summer.

• Ksubi – fine fabric and cool little details makes the jeans look more like personalised skinny trousers

• Earl Jean – a wide ranges of cuts and fabrics with various fabulous details
  

• Citizen of Humanity – best for vintage feel, little details make the casual jeans feel much more luxury!

3. We usually picture skinny jeans in a relaxed or effortless look. However, it can be worn in a much more glamous way. This is the point in which you can make the skinny jeans much more personal and mixed into your own style. Remember when Tara Subkoff called Scarlett Johansson to open the show for Imitation of Christ ss06.

It may not be the most flattering way of wearing skinny jeans, but it gives a unique, retro and "pin-up" girl going modern feel, right? Basically, imagine your skinny jeans as a pair of fitted slim-cut trousers, so now you can team it with blazers, ruffle blouses or sweet little tops. Therefore, we also love the followings
